New York Islanders president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said Friday that veteran forward Matt Martin will be back in training camp on a professional tryout.
The 35-year-old from Windsor, Ont., is closing in on the 1,000-game milestone having played 955 games over his 15-year career.
Martin was drafted in the fifth round, 148th overall, by the Islanders in 2008.
He signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Lamoriello was GM, as a free agent in 2016.
Martin later returned to the Islanders in a trade in July 2018, two months after the team hired Lamoriello.
He has registered 176 points (81 goals and 95 assists) in his career and is second all-time in hits with 3,854 since the league began tracking in 2007-08.
