McAvoy's move to IR headlines multiple transactions for Bruins

After a long list of transactions, the Boston Bruins are going to look very different over the next few weeks.

The Bruins announced Tuesday that they have placed defenceman Charlie McAvoy and forward Mark Kastelic on the injured reserve while also moving defenceman Hampus Lindholm to the long-term injured reserve.

McAvoy, who is out with an undisclosed injury following the Bruins' 4-3 loss to the Panthers on Jan. 11, is leading Bruins defencemen in goals (5) and points (20).

Lindholm has suited up for just 17 games this season and has been out of the lineup since Nov. 12 with a lower-body injury. The 31-year-old is still being considered week-to-week.

In corresponding moves, forward Matthew Poitras and defenceman Michael Callahan were called up from the AHL-affiliated Providence Bruins.

Poitras has played in a total of 47 NHL games, including 14 earlier this season, and has picked up 19 career points. The 2020 second-round pick has also put together a solid season in Providence thus far, notching 20 points in 23 games.

Callahan, a native of Franklin, Massachusetts, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 draft and has yet to play an NHL game, spending the past four seasons with Providence. The 25-year-old has recorded six points in 35 games this season.

The Bruins hold the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 21-19-5 record and are two points back of their next opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning, who they will face Tuesday.
