Miller gives thoughts on Canucks fans who tossed jerseys on ice

Vancouver Canucks star forward J.T. Miller didn't mince words when asked about three jerseys being tossed on the ice by fans on Saturday at the home opener.

When asked for his reaction on Monday, Miller told reporters: "I didn’t have one after the game, and I still don’t have one. If they want to throw their s--- on the ice, that’s up to them.

“I guess I’ve got a job to do. I’m not worried about if people want to come to the game, pay all that money and throw their jersey on the ice, go ahead. I’ve got a job to do, I’m worried about beating the Hurricanes today and having a good start to the game and really us trying to come together as a team, not whether people want to toss their gear on the ice or not."

The Canucks are the only winless team in the NHL, falling to 0-4-2 after their 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in the home opener.

In addition to tossing jerseys, fans booed the Canucks off the ice.

Signs of frustration showed Saturday when defenceman Luke Schenn and Miller appeared to have a heated talk while leaving the ice for the second intermission.

After notching 99 points this season, Miller has three points (two goals, one assist) is six games.

At the morning skate, Miller was on the wing instead of at centre on Monday.

“It’s not as bad as you guys think it is. The sky’s not falling, certainly," Miller said of the team.

But there was more bad news on Monday as the Canucks announced injured star defenceman Quinn Hughes (lower-body injury) is now considered week-to-week.

“Part of this job is being a man and doing your job. If everybody looks at each other in the mirror and steps up a little bit, it should never feel like you’re not going to win," Miller said.

Watch the Canucks host the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday at 10:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific and SN NOW.
