The New York Rangers have placed centre Nick Bonino on waivers.
Bonino, 35, is in his first season with the Rangers after signing a one-year, $800,000 deal with the club in the off-season.
"He met with (president and general manager) Chris Drury this morning… It’s the decision that was made," Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette told reporters Thursday afternoon. "I’ve worked with Nick for a quite a few years going back to Nashville. I can’t speak enough about him as a person. He’s just a good guy, a good teammate. It’s a tough day."
Over 45 games this season, Bonino has recorded just five points (one goal and four assists). Across 868 career NHL games, spanning 15 seasons, he has accumulated 358 points (159 goals and 199 assists).
Before joining the Rangers, Bonino had stints with the Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks.
