The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers will open the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this weekend at Madison Square Garden.
The NHL announced that the Rangers will host the Hurricanes in Game 1 on Sunday. The start time for the game will be determined after Friday's results are complete.
Additionally, the Florida Panthers will host the winner of the series between the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. Game 7 between the Bruins and Maple Leafs will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
The Rangers and Hurricanes were far and away the best teams in the Metropolitan Division this season and now will clash head-to-head with a spot in the Eastern Conference Final on the line. The Rangers won two of the three meetings with the Hurricanes in the regular season and have been off a full week since sweeping the Washington Capitals. The Hurricanes also cruised to victory in Round 1, defeating the New York Islanders in five games.
The Panthers needed only five games to dispatch state-rival the Tampa Bay Lightning. Regardless of who they play in Round 2, it will be a rematch from last season as the Panthers defeated both Boston and Toronto on the way to reaching the Stanley Cup Final.
Broadcast details and the remainder of the second-round schedule will be announced at a later date.
