NHL announces start date for 2025-26 season

Hockey fans now know when the next NHL season will begin.

Commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed Wednesday that the first puck will drop on Oct. 7 for the 2025-26 campaign.

No other details about the schedule, including who will be playing on the first day, were announced.

The NHL has previously disclosed a couple of dates on the upcoming calendar.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators will travel to Stockholm, Sweden for games on Nov. 14 and 16.

The Winter Classic will be on Jan. 2, 2026 and see the Florida Panthers host the New York Rangers at LoanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins. That will be followed by a Stadium Series game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on Feb. 1.
