Bruins defenceman Matt Grzelcyk has been fined $5,000 for spearing the Capitals' Max Pacioretty, the league announced on Sunday.
"The incident occurred at 18:08 of the first period. Grzelcyk was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for spearing," said the NHL's Department of Player Safety in a statement.
The fine is maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
The Capitals wound up scoring on the power play and went on to win the game against the Bruins 3-0.
The fact Grzelcyk was merely fined means he will be available to play in Sunday's game against the Canucks (1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet an Sportsnet+).
