The NHL Players' Association, including executive director Marty Walsh, met today with league officials regarding Mike Babcock, releasing a statement stating that they've provided the league with an update on the investigation.
The NHLPA said in a statement that they "provided the NHL with an update on our ongoing review." They did not provide further comment at this time.
As Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Thursday, members of the NHLPA met with Columbus Blue Jackets players, describing said meeting as 'intense'. Friedman also reported that many of the younger Blue Jackets players claimed to be uncomfortable with the photo sharing.
When the news first broke on Tuesday, Friedman noted that the NHL was initially satisfied with the explanation given by Babcock and Blue Jackets captain Boone Jenner.
The Blue Jackets promised full cooperation with the investigation.
Barstool Sports' Spittin’ Chiclets’ co-host and former player Paul Bissonnette reported on Tuesday that Babcock was asking to see his players’ phones and AirPlaying photos on his office television.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told the 32 Thoughts podcast in Henderson, Nev., that the league first became aware of the Babcock allegation Tuesday morning and that he had spoken with the PA and multiple players whose depiction of photo-sharing wasn't "even remotely similar" to how it was portrayed by Bissonnette.
