The Edmonton Oilers–New Jersey Devils game on Friday had a 10-minute coach’s challenge that ultimately didn’t end up with an overturned call – or a penalty for the team issuing the challenge.
With 11:42 remaining in the third period, Kailer Yamamoto scored for the Oilers to make it 5-4. The Devils issued a coach’s challenge before the ensuing faceoff, maintaining one of their players touched the puck on a delayed penalty and the play should have be blown dead before the goal was scored.
The officials consulted near the penalty box for close to 10 minutes, seen reviewing the play on the iPad and talking into headsets.
Ultimately, the on-ice crew of referees Francois StLaurent and Dean Morton, plus linesmen Bevan Mills and Ben O’Quinn determined the play couldn’t be challenged and the goal stood. However, no penalty was issued to the Devils, either.
The Devils won the game, 6-5, in overtime.
