The Edmonton Oilers were forced to dress only 17 skaters for Friday's game against the New York Rangers after winger Klim Kostin was made a late scratch due to an illness.
The Oilers had no other players available to play after forward Dylan Holloway and defenceman Vincent Desharnais were loaned to AHL Bakersfield on Friday to make room under the cap for Kailer Yamamoto to be activated from long-term injured reserve.
There was speculation that the Oilers would waive Jesse Puljujarvi to make room for Yamamoto.
The club instead opted to send down Holloway and Desharnais, who don't require waivers to be sent to the AHL.
