The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames will be donning some 1950s-inspired jerseys when they play in the Heritage Classic next month.
The NHL and Adidas unveiled the teams' uniforms on Tuesday, which will be worn for the Oct. 29 outdoor game at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. The Oilers jersey is described as being "inspired by the historic Edmonton Mercurys team that won gold in the 1952 Olympics," while the Calgary sweater is a nod to "the Calgary Stampeders hockey team of the 1950s and 1960s."
The Edmonton design also features jersey numbers on the front, as well as on only one sleeve. The captains' letters sit higher than normal, into the shoulder yolk. Calgary's jersey limits the use of gold to around the team name on the front crest and on the numbering.

The Flames' Nazem Kadri and Oilers captain Connor McDavid were used as models for the two jerseys.
The game marks 20 years since the NHL hosted its first Heritage Class, which featured the Oilers and Montreal Canadiens at Commonwealth before 57,000 fans. The event has been held five other times since that first game.
