Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane will not play when his club takes on the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday due to a personal matter, head coach Jay Woodcroft announced.
Woodcroft added that the Oilers knew ahead of time that Kane would not be available for Wednesday's game.
Kane has five goals and eight assists through 17 games this season.
The 31-year-old has missed the majority of the season after he was cut by Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon's skate blade after falling to the ice on Nov. 8. Kane returned from his injury on Jan. 17 despite expectations he'd be out three to four months.
The Oilers signed Kane to a four-year, $20.5-million contract last off-season.
The Athletic reported previously that Kane is required to attend court in San Jose for seven days between Jan. 23 and Feb. 2 for bankruptcy hearings.
Edmonton looks to make it seven wins on Wednesday. You can watch it on Sportsnet at 7:30 p.m. MT / 9:30 p.m. ET as Stuart Skinner gets the start in net.
