The Edmonton Oilers could be getting their captain back in the lineup.
Connor McDavid will take the pre-game skate for Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Blues, Sportsnet's Mark Spector reported. After he warms up, the team will make a decision on whether or not he plays.
The Oilers superstar hasn't played since March 20 when he was injured in a game against the Winnipeg Jets.
It could be ideal timing for the Oilers, as with a win over the Blues and a Calgary Flames loss in regulation against Anaheim, Edmonton can officially clinch a playoff spot on Wednesday.
Even if McDavid does return, the Oilers will still be far from full strength against the Blues as both Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins won't be suiting up.
Draisaitl is still working his way back from an injury that he suffered on April 3, while Nugent-Hopkins is out due to an illness.
The Oilers enter Wednesday's game four points back of the Los Angeles Kings for second place in the Pacific Division.
Watch the Oilers-Blues game at 10 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. MT on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
