The Edmonton Oilers will take on the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after Thursday night’s results. The series is a rematch of a seven-game first-round thriller that the Oilers won.
Edmonton finished the regular season as one of the league’s hottest teams, winners of nine straight, and 19 of their last 22. The Kings and Oilers split their season series at two games apiece, but the Oilers did win the final two meetings.
That series will begin on Monday in Edmonton with Game 2 following on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Jets will clash with the Vegas Golden Knights in another first-round series after the Golden Knights wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
Winnipeg secured the Western Conference’s final playoff spot on Tuesday when they defeated the Minnesota Wild. The Jets lost all three of their games against the Golden Knights this season. The Jets also lost the only other playoff meeting between these two clubs in the 2018 Western Conference Final, a series that only lasted five games.
Game 1 of this series will be on Tuesday in Vegas with Game 2 following on Thursday.
The seeding on the Central Division side of the conference remains up in the air heading into Friday's final pair of games. If the Colorado Avalanche defeat the Nashville Predators Friday, they will win the division and face the Seattle Kraken while the Dallas Stars will face the Minnesota Wild. However, if the Avalanche don't win, the Stars will win the division and face the Kraken while the Avalanche would then host the Wild.
The opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will begin on Monday.
