Edmonton Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto has returned to Edmonton to be evaluated for an undisclosed injury, coach Jay Woodcroft said after the team's loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
Yamamoto did not play in the 7-2 defeat.
The former first-round pick is off to a slow start this season with no goals and three assists in 13 games.
Last season, Yamamoto posted career bests in goals (20), assists (21) and points (41).
The Oilers picked the Spokane, Wash. native 22nd overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.
