Florida Panthers goaltender Spencer Knight will be away from the team indefinitely after entering the NHL and NHLPA player assistance program.
No other details were disclosed.
Knight, 21, has a 9-8-3 record this season — his second full campaign in the NHL — with a .901 save percentage.
The Panthers re-assigned Knight to AHL Charlotte on Thursday to give him a chance to make some starts during a lighter period in the club's schedule.
”We’ve got a tremendous amount of faith in Spencer, his ability and what we’ve projected moving forward," head coach Paul Maurice said, according to Florida Hockey Now, before Friday's update on Knight. "In terms of our faith in Spencer, nothing has changed at all. As a matter of fact, we think he can go down there and get his game back and then some."
