The Florida Panthers have added Ulf Samuelsson to their coaching staff as an assistant coach, the team announced Monday.
Samuelsson joins the Panthers after serving as the head coach for Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League and working for the Seattle Kraken as a scout. The 56-year-old brings over 30 years of experience as both a player and coach.
“Ulf is a knowledgeable and experienced coach who will be a great addition to the Panthers,” said general manager Bill Zito in a statement. “We are excited for him to join Joel (Quenneville)’s coaching staff and look forward to his competitive mentality and the impact that he can have on our team.”
Since retiring from the NHL, Samuelsson has worked as an assistant coach with the Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. He also has head coaching experience in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers and with MODO in the SHL.
During his 16-season as a player, Samuelsson won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992. A defenceman, he had 332 points in 1,080 career games.
