Panthers' Kulikov to have hearing for illegal check to head of Lightning's Sheary

Florida Panthers defenceman Dmitry Kulikov will have a hearing with the department of player safety for an illegal check to the head on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Conor Sheary.

Kulikov was assessed a five-minute major and ejected from Saturday's game in the second period as he crossed through the slot in front of the Lightning's net and hit Sheary up high with an elbow. The ensuing goal was negated as a result of the match penalty.

Sheary briefly left the Lightning bench, but returned before the end of the period and ultimately logged 9:29 of ice time.

Kulikov, 33, was selected 14th overall by the Panthers in the 2009 NHL Draft. Before returning to South Florida last season, Kulikov spent time with the Buffalo Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks across his 872 NHL games.
