Panthers' Sam Bennett expected to miss at least a week with injury

The Florida Panthers were breathing a sigh of relief Wednesday because the news about forward Sam Bennett's injury was better than the team initially feared.

Head coach Paul Maurice told reporters that Bennett will be out for at least a week after leaving Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning with an upper-body injury.

Bennett exited the game during the second period after being struck in the left hand by a shot from teammate Brandon Montour.

As he headed down to the team's locker room, Bennett could be seen throwing his glove down the tunnel.

The 27-year-old had opened the game's scoring in the first period.

A native of Holland Landing, Ont., Bennett had 20 goals and 21 assists in 69 games over the regular season.
