Gusev was placed on unconditional waivers by the New Jersey Devils for the purpose of contract termination. The team tried to trade the forward but was unable to find a landing spot with his $4.5-million cap hit tough to move.
The 28-year-old — who has five points in 20 games this season — will be eligible to suit up for the playoffs since he signed before Monday’s deadline.
