Panthers, Weegar agree to three-year deal to avoid arbitration

The Florida Panthers have agreed to a three-year, $9.75-million deal with defenceman MacKenzie Weegar to avoid arbitration.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports the contract is worth $2 million for the first season, $3 million for the second and $4.75 million for the third.

Weegar is coming off the best season of his career in 2019-20. The 26-year-old scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 45 games for the Panthers. He also averaged a career-best 20:07 of ice time per contest.

With Weegar signing before his scheduled Nov. 8 arbitration hearing, all cases league-wide have now been settled.
