Bokondji Imama's season has come to an early end.
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Saturday that Imama underwent successful surgery to repair a bicep injury at UPMC Mercy Hospital. The expected recovery time is four to six months.
Imama, 28, was in the midst of his fourth NHL season, where he had one goal and 30 penalty minutes over 16 games. The Montreal native had also gotten into 24 games at the AHL level, tallying five points.
It is unclear when Imama suffered the injury, as he played 5:41 on Tuesday — right in line with his season average — then sat out Pittsburgh's loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
Originally a sixth-round pick in 2015, Imama spent NHL time with the Arizona Coyotes and Ottawa Senators before landing in Pittsburgh. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
