Pittsburgh Penguins training opens up on Wednesday, but Erik Karlsson won't be on the ice.
The 34-year-old defenceman is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, the team announced.
Karlsson heads into this season looking for a bounce-back year after recording just 11 goals and 45 assists in his first season with the Penguins in 2023-24.
The Swedish defenceman won the Norris Trophy for the 2022-23 season, when he recorded 101 points with the San Jose Sharks. It was the third Norris Trophy of his career.
Pittsburgh opens its season on Oct. 9 against the New York Rangers.
