Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin will not play in Game 1 of the team’s first-round series against the New York Islanders after he wasn’t present for pre-game warm-ups.
Malkin was on the ice for the Penguins’ practice on Saturday, but in a limited role which put his status for Game 1 in question.
The Russian sniper finished the regular season with eight goals and 20 assists in 33 games for the Penguins.
Meanwhile, the New York Islanders will be without goaltender Semyon Varlamov due to a lower-body injury, with Ilya Sorokin starting in his place. This will be Sorokin’s first NHL playoff game.
