The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year, $775,000 contract on Saturday.

Nylander, who was set to become a restricted free agent, had one goal and one assist in nine games with the Penguins this season.

He also had 50 points (25 goals and 25 assists) in 55 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.

The 25-year-old Nylander was traded to the Penguins from the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 5, 2022, for Sam Lafferty.

Drafted eighth overall by Buffalo in 2016, Nylander has 34 points (14 goals and 20 assists) in 93 games over five seasons with the Sabres, Blackhawks and Penguins.

Pittsburgh missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006 after finishing fifth in the Metropolitan Division with a 40-31-11 record. The Penguins fired general manager Ron Hextall and director of hockey operations Brian Burke on April 14.
