The Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings are getting an unexpected night off.
Saturday's pre-season tilt was postponed after the Penguins were unable to travel to Detroit due to continued mechanical issues with the team's plane, Pittsburgh said in a statement.
Pittsburgh said that there was no other method to travel to Detroit safely for the game that was scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. ET
"We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to all fans, media, officials and the Red Wings who were already at Little Caesars Arena," the Penguins wrote.
The Red Wings later announced the game at Little Caesars Arena has been rescheduled for Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. ET. Already slated to face the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center at the same date and time, the Red Wings will send split squads to both games.
