The Toronto Maple Leafs have their new bench boss.
On Friday, the team announced Craig Berube as the 32nd head coach in franchise history.
Berube replaces Sheldon Keefe, who was fired on May 9, less than a week after the club lost Game 7 of the first round in overtime against the Boston Bruins.
The native of Calahoo, Alta., played 1,050 career NHL games for the Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and New York Islanders after going undrafted.
He is now the 16th Maple Leafs head coach who has formerly played for the franchise.
It's a new era for the Maple Leafs who still have not made it past the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs since 2002 and have won just two playoff series (2004, 2023) in that time.
