Pominville, Vanek, Briere headline Sabres' quarter-century team

The Buffalo Sabres have had some remarkable talent come through their organization.

The NHL revealed its picks for the Sabres' quarter-century team on Wednesday, which includes multiple players from the franchise's most competitive seasons over the last 25 years.

Forwards Daniel Briere, Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville join defencemen Brian Campbell, current captain Rasmus Dahlin and goaltender Ryan Miller on the Sabres' first team.

The quarter-century team is made up of five skaters (three forwards, two defencemen) and one goalie who played for the franchise after Jan. 1, 2000.

No player has suited up more times for the Sabres in the last 25 years than Pominville. With 733 games played across 10 seasons, the 2001 second-round pick became the team's leader in points (521) and assists (304) while finishing second in goals (217) in this quarter-century.

Ahead of Pominville in goals during that timeframe is Vanek. After being drafted fifth overall in 2003, the Austrian-born winger tallied 251 goals over ten seasons with the Sabres, placing him fifth on the franchise's all-time goals list.

Despite playing less than four seasons with the team, Briere was the Sabres' most productive post-season player over the last 25 years. Playing a pivotal role in Buffalo's back-to-back Eastern Conference Final runs in 2005-06 and 2006-07, he recorded 34 points in 34 playoff games — the most by any Sabres player in the quarter-century.

Campbell played eight seasons in Buffalo after being drafted in the sixth round of the 1997 draft, representing the Sabres at consecutive All-Star Games in 2007 and 2008.

Dahlin is already the Sabres' leader in points among defencemen this century (323). The 24-year-old also ranks 12th among all NHL defencemen with an average of 0.69 points per-game since the 1999-2000 season (minimum 82 games played).

On top of playing more games than any Sabres goaltender in this quarter-century (540), Miller recorded the most wins (284) and finished with the most shutouts as well (28).

The second team features forwards Chris Drury, Jack Eichel and Derek Roy alongside defencemen Jay McKee, Tyler Myers and goaltender Dominik Hasek.
