The Nashville Predators have locked up one of their former first-round picks.
Winger Matthew Wood signed a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced on Saturday.
Wood, selected 15th overall in the 2023 draft, spent this season playing in the NCAA for the University of Minnesota, where he recorded 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) in 39 games. The 20-year-old previously spent two seasons at the University of Connecticut.
Before his collegiate career, Wood — who was born in Lethbridge, Alta., but grew up in Nanaimo, B.C. — played two seasons for the BCHL's Victoria Grizzlies.
With Minnesota eliminated from the NCAA Tournament after a first-round loss to UMass Amherst, the Predators also announced that Wood will report to the team in the coming days.
