The Rangers had to close out Wednesday's game against the Sabres a man down.
New York defenceman K'Andre Miller exited the outing early with an upper-body injury, the team announced.
It's unclear when or how the injury occurred, but the 24-year-old did not suit up for a shift in the third period. He played the team's last shift of the second period but did not return for the start of the final frame.
Up to that point in the game, Miller had played 13:42 with one hit, two blocked shots and a shot on goal.
The fifth-year defenceman has been steady on the team's blue line this season with two goals and four assists in 27 games while averaging the second-most time-on-ice, with 21:38 per night.
