The New York Rangers signed forward Julien Gauthier to a one-year contract extension on Tuesday.

Gauthier, who signed for $800,000 according to CapFriendly, was set to become a restricted free agent on July 13.

The 24-year-old from Pointe-aux-Trembles, Que., had three goals and four assists for seven points in 49 games this season.

Drafted in the first round, 21st overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016, Gauthier was traded to the Rangers on Feb. 18, 2020, for defenceman Joey Keane.

Gauthier has 18 points (five goals and 13 assists) in 96 career NHL games with the Hurricanes and Rangers.
