After producing his highest point total since 2017-18, free agent centre Vincent Trocheck has signed a seven-year contract with the New York Rangers worth $39.375 million, Sportsnet can confirm.
Trocheck had 51 points (21 goals, 30 assists) in 82 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season. The Pittsburgh native then added six goals and four assists in 14 playoff games before the Hurricanes were eliminated by the Rangers in the second round.
The 29-year-old started his NHL career with the Florida Panthers and has racked up 378 points (150 goals, 228 assists) in 555 career NHL regular-season games between the Panthers and Hurricanes.
Trocheck’s new deal in New York reunites him with a familiar coach in Gerard Gallant — the Rangers’ head coach was behind the bench in Florida for Trocheck’s first three seasons as a full-time NHLer, during which Trocheck put up two of his three highest single-season goal totals.
The Rangers took a major step forward this spring, making a run all the way to the Eastern Conference Final and falling just two wins shy of a berth in the Cup Final.
With the seven-year signing of Trocheck, the Rangers now have a strong core of goal-scorers — one led by Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, and supported by Barclay Goodrow — under contract trhrough at least 2026-27.
