It was a tough season for the New York Rangers' captain, in more ways than one.
Not only were his Rangers bounced just two wins shy of a Stanley Cup Final appearance, but defenceman Jacob Trouba told reporters Tuesday he was dealing with a broken ankle during the season.
Per Mollie Walker of the New York Post, the 30-year-old said a "chunk" of his ankle came off, and although that was enough to sideline him for the team's final 13 regular season games, it wasn't a weight-bearing bone that he broke so he could walk.
Trouba did go on to clarify that he didn't use the injury as an excuse but skating didn't feel great and his hobbled ankle was "limiting."
The 2023-24 Mark Messier Award winner gutted it out through all 16 of the Rangers playoff games but was kept pretty quiet as he finished with seven total points (one goal and six assists).
