The Detroit Red Wings have hired Alex Tanguay as an assistant coach, the club announced Wednesday.
Tanguay, who played 16 years in the league and amassed 863 points over his big-league tenure, spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the AHL's Iowa Wild. The club went 54-31-8-4 while he was behind the bench, finishing second in their division last season.
The 41-year-old suited up for the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning and Arizona Coyotes during his run in the NHL.
He won the Stanley Cup in his second season in the league, famously scoring a pair of goals — including the game winner — in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final to lift his Avalanche over the New Jersey Devils.
