Red Wings prospects Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard to join AHL

Two of the Detroit Red Wings' top prospects are headed to North America.

Defenceman Axel Sandin-Pellikka and forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygård are being assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League, the Red Wings announced Tuesday.

Both players played for Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).

Sandin-Pellikka, 20, was picked in the first round of the 2023 draft. The right-shot blue-liner scored 12 goals and had 17 assists in 46 games this season, and added another goal and seven helpers in the playoffs.

Brandsegg-Nygård was Detroit's most recent first-round pick, selected 15th overall in 2024. The 19-year-old Norwegian had only 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 42 games, but found the back of the net four times in 11 playoff contests.
