The Detroit Red Wings have sent goaltender Jack Campbell back to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League, the team announced Sunday.
Campbell was recalled Friday on an emergency basis after Cam Talbot re-aggravated a lower-body injury.
The 32-year-old Campbell served as the backup to Ville Husso during the Red Wings' 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Campbell has played two games with Grand Rapids — recording a 2.55 goals-against average and .919 save percentage — since he was cleared to return from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and passed waivers in mid-November.
The Port Huron, Mich., native signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Red Wings in July. He appeared in one pre-season game for the Red Wings, allowing two goals on 22 shots against the Buffalo Sabres, before entering the Player Assistance Program.
Campbell made his NHL debut in 2013 after being selected in the first round, 11th overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
He has played 176 NHL games with the Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers and holds a career .909 save percentage.
