As the 2024-25 NHL season fast approaches, teams are scurrying to bolster their lineups.
The Detroit Red Wings re-signed restricted free agent Jonatan Berggren to a one-year contract with an AAV of $875,000, the team announced Monday.
The 24-year-old was selected by the Red Wings in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. Since then, the winger has recorded 34 points (17 goals and 17 assists) in 79 career NHL games. Last season for Detroit, the Swedish star skated in 12 games, tallying six points on two goals and four assists.
Berggren has also collected 127 points (49 goals and 78 assists) in 130 AHL games with the Griffins since 2021-22.
Prior to the NHL, Berggren played for Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Hockey League, and won gold with Sweden during the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
