The Detroit Red Wings have signed netminder Alex Lyon to a two-year deal worth $1.8 million, the club announced Saturday.
Lyon is coming off a breakout campaign in which he played a pivotal role in helping the Florida Panthers reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs, after which they ran all the way to the Cup Final before falling to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Handed the reins to the Panthers net in late March, the 30-year-old reeled off six straight wins to help Florida claw its way back into the playoff picture as an eighth seed.
He played the first three post-season games for the Panthers, losing twice and winning once, before Sergei Bobrovsky took over for the rest of the club's Cup Final run.
Lyon finished the 2022-23 campaign with a .912 save percentage and 2.89 goals-against average, along with one shutout, through 15 appearances. Prior to his run in Florida, he spent time with the Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers.
