The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenceman Robert Hagg to a one-year contract worth $800,000, the team announced on Monday.
Hagg, 27, has played in 300 career NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, and Florida Panthers where he has amassed 56 points over six seasons. He split the 2021-2022 season between the Sabres and Panthers, where he scored one goal and nine points in 64 games-played.
He has also appeared in 14 post-season games, all with the Flyers, where he recorded three assists in the team's 2020 playoff run.
Hagg was selected in the second round, 41st overall, by the Flyers in the 2013 NHL Draft, where he played for five seasons before being traded to the Sabres in July 2021.
New teammate of Hagg and a fellow free-agent signing, defenceman Mark Pysyk has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. His expected recovery time is four to six months, thus he will miss the start of the 2021-2022 season. Pysyk signed with the Red Wings as a free agent on July 13.
