The National Hockey League Players’ Association and National Hockey League announced Wednesday that Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana has been placed in the league's player assistance program.
While unavailable from the Red Wings for an indefinite period of time, Vrana will continue to be paid while receiving treatment and care from the NHL and NHLPA. Program administrators will clear when Vrana can return to on-ice competition for the club.
The team released a statement via press release.
"The Detroit Red Wings are aware that Jakub Vrana has been placed in the NHL and NHLPA’s Player Assistance Program, and that he will be out indefinitely. The Red Wings will have no further comment on this matter."
Vrana scored 13 goals in 26 games for the Red Wings in 2021-22 after missing 56 games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. He also notched a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 15, his only points of the season.
