An apple nearly took a bite out of Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jacob Fowler on Saturday.
The apple found its way to the ice during the second period of a game between the Canadiens and Maple Leafs in Toronto. Referee TJ Luxmore was seen on camera holding it up to Fowler before disposing of it.
Fowler told Sportsnet's Kyle Bukauskas after the game that the apple wasn't real but added that it was still one of the weirdest things he'd ever seen hit the ice.
"I was pretty dialled in but I saw an apple come on the ice right in front of me. I'm used to tracking a black puck not a green apple," Fowler said with a laugh. "I saw that one and (Luxmore) told me he would have blown the play dead if they had gotten in the zone so thankfully they didn't get one there."
The flying apple didn't faze Fowler, who stopped 26 saves in a 4-2 win.
