Colorado Avalanche star winger Valeri Nichushkin was involved in a "police incident" in Seattle on Saturday, the Denver Post reported on Thursday.
According to the Post report, a woman in Nichushkin's Four Seasons hotel room in Seattle was perceived as being so intoxicated, the Avalanche's team doctor called 911. The woman, who struck the team doctor according to the police report, was taken later to hospital. There was no immediate word on her condition or whether she was still in hospital. The Post reported the Avs team doctor did not want to press charges.
The Denver Post's Bennett Durando added that "no criminal investigation" is being conducted into the incident.
Nichushkin did not play in Saturday's Game 3 of Colorado's first-round playoff series against the Kraken and was sent back to Denver. He has not played since and is reportedly not with the team as it prepares for Game 6 of the series on Friday in Seattle. Coach Jared Bednar, whose team trails 3-2, previously said Nichushkin was absent for personal reasons.
Nichushkin scored the tying goal in Colorado’s 3-2 win that evened the series.
The 28-year-old Russian had 17 goals and 37 assists for 47 points in 53 games this season.
Nichushkin signed an eight-year, $49-million extension with the Avalanche last off-season, after helping the team capture the 2022 Stanley Cup.
