The St. Louis Blues are reportedly hoping to bolster their blue line with a seasoned veteran before the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
The team has expressed interest in veteran defenceman Zdeno Chara, according to Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic (subscription required).
Chara, who has not ruled out returning for a 24th NHL season, spent 2020-21 with the Washington Capitals after 14 years with the Boston Bruins.
The 44-year-old had two goals, 10 points and logged a career-low 18:19 in average ice-time in 55 games with the Capitals.
St. Louis lost Vince Dunn to the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft, one year after losing Alex Pietrangelo to the Vegas Golden Knights in free agency.
The Blues reportedly showed interest in Ryan Suter, another veteran left-shot defenceman, earlier this summer after he was bought out by the Minnesota Wild, but the 36-year-old eventually signed with the Dallas Stars.
