The Washington Capitals can breathe a sigh of relief.
Captain Alex Ovechkin was on the ice for an informal skate on his 39th birthday Tuesday, one day after he left a similar session in apparent pain, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reported.
Silber said the Russian star went to the bench Monday before retreating to the dressing room.
The Capitals are slated to have physicals Wednesday before opening training camp Thursday.
Ovechkin has 853 career goals, 41 behind Wayne Gretzky's record.
Ovechkin had 31 goals and 34 assists in 79 games last season.
