New Jersey Devils star Nico Hischier is unlikely to travel with the team on its current four-game road trip, GM Tom Fitzgerald told reporters on Wednesday.
According to team reporter Amanda Stein, Fitzgerald said he "does not anticipate" Hischier, who is sidelined with an upper-body injury, will be with the team as it travels to Minnesota, St. Louis, Chicago and Colorado, Nov. 2-7.
With just over four minutes remaining in the first period on Friday night against the Buiffalo Sabres, Connor Clifton hit Hischier up high near the boards and was assessed a match penalty after a review.
Hischier didn't play for the rest of the period before returning in the second. He played a total of 11:11 in that game and hasn't played since. Clifton was suspended two games for the illegal check.
Hischier, the first-overall pick by the Devils in 2017, has two goals and no assists in seven games this season. He had 31 goals and 49 assists for 80 points in 81 games last season.
