The New York Rangers are placing star defenceman Adam Fox on long-term injured reserve and forward Filip Chytil on injured reserve, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reported Friday.
Fox suffered a lower-body injury in Thursday's win over the Carolina Hurricanes, while Chytil exited with an upper-body injury.
LTIR is used for players expected to miss at least 10 games or 24 days, while IR keeps a player out for seven days.
Fox is a two-time all-star and won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenceman in 2021.
Fox, 25, has three goals and eight assists in 10 games this season. He had 72 points in 82 games last year.
Chytil has six assists in 10 games this season.
Meanwhile, the Rangers have called up goalie Louis Domingue, forward Jonny Brodzinski and defenceman Connor Mackey from AHL Hartford and announced that forward Barclay Goodrow will not play Saturday against the Minnesota Wild so he can be with his wife for the birth of their son.
Mercogliano reports top goaltender Igor Shesterkin is a bit banged up, leading to the callup of Domingue. Jonathan Quick is expected to start in net versus Minnesota.
