  • Roberto Luongo eats poutine out of Stanley Cup, enjoys day with family, fans

There's nothing more Canadian than eating poutine out of the Stanley Cup, and that's exactly what Florida Panthers special advisor Roberto Luongo did on Wednesday.

The Montreal native was in his hometown enjoying his day with the Cup — at the arena named after him — when the 45-year-old and his family shared a gnocchi version of the tasty treat out of the mouth of the trophy.

The NHL Hall of Famer began his day in Saint-Léonard, a borough of Montreal, alongside Mayor Michel Bissonnet. He walked around the arena, smiled in front of a Luongo memorabilia case, and posed for photos at a meet and greet with fans.

Philip Pritchard, the Hockey Hall of Fame's Keeper of the Cup, shared photos of the day to his X account.

While Luongo never won the Cup as a player, the former Panthers goalie, who retired in 2019, finally won the prize in his off-ice role. Florida beat the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Final in June.

The goaltender, whose career spanned an incredible 19 seasons, made saves for the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks and Panthers before hanging up his skates.
