The Buffalo Sabres are bringing back a vintage look for the 2022-23 season.

The team announced that they are adding a new black and red third jersey to their uniform set, starting on Nov. 23 against the St. Louis Blues.

For 12 home games Buffalo will wear the third jersey, modelled after the primary uniforms worn from 1996 until 2006, during the 2022-23 campaign.

Forward Alex Tuch hinted the return of the classic jersey on his Instagram story of a child wearing the red alternate version with the Goathead logo.

The jersey was famously donned by top players Dominik Hasek, Jason Pominville, Chris Drury, Daniel Briere, Maxim Afinogenov, Ryan Miller, Thomas Vanek, Miroslav Satan and Michael Peca.

Many call the red and black style one of the more successful periods in franchise history, as they made the Eastern Conference final three times and the Stanley Cup final in 1999.

After going with the Goathead logo, the Sabres changed to an updated version in 2006, changing the colour scheme and design. Then in 2010, Buffalo would return to its original logo and jersey design adding some modern touches.
