Buffalo Sabres defenceman Connor Clifton has been suspended two games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for his illegal hit on New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier.
With just over four minutes remaining in the first period on Friday night, Clifton hit Hischier up high near the boards and was assessed a match penalty after a review.
Hischier exited the contest for the remainder of the first frame before returning in the second.
Devils head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed that Hischier would miss the team's next game Sunday with an injury stemming from the hit.
