The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Dylan Cozens to a seven-year, $49.7-million extension, the club announced Tuesday.
The average annual value is $7.1 million.
Cozens, 22, is the third member of the club to sign a seven-year extension in the past year -- joining star forward Tage Thompson and Mattias Samuelsson.
Picked seventh overall by the Sabres in the 2019 NHL Draft, the Whitehorse native already has set career highs in scoring totals this season, with 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points in 49 games.
His 0.88 points per game ranks second among players from his draft class, behind first-overall selection Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils.
One of the big highlights for an improving Sabres team this season came last month when Cozens scored the overtime winner on the night Ryan Miller's sweater was retired against the New York Islanders.
Cozens then gave his game stick to Miller's son, Bodhi.
The Lethbridge Hurricanes graduate also helped Canada win gold at the world junior championship in 2020.
